The Tongariro Crossing is a popular 20km day trek across volcanic and dramatic landscapes on the North Island of New Zealand.
Planning your trip for this one is a must as it books out fast. This is one of the busiest trails I have ever been on, there was a constant stream of people even from 6am when we started.
Don't let the people deter you though. This trail is 100% worth the booking and popularity. You can find all relevant details via this link:
Even though we went in January, I was never hot on this trail. I wore many layers and never removed them.
You will walk up and down scree covered trails, through vast valleys filled with volcanic rocks spewed out by Mt Doom and view some of the most beautiful blue sulphur lakes.
